For Valerie & Rik’s wedding, I got invited quite late to the party, and it was my first wedding of the season, but I am so happy they picked me as their wedding photographer. When I heard about their wedding venue in Ronda, La Bodega Descalzos Viejos, perched on the steep cliffs of Ronda and overlooking one of the most spectacular Andalucian landscapes, I was all in.
Now, Descalzos Viejos had never hosted a wedding before, but because Rik sells wines and buys them form them… You get the picture. I knew that someone trading wine and getting married in a Spanish winery had to be cool. And I was right! From the moment I saw the place, I knew it would be a great wedding. Valerie & Rik’s intimate wedding ceremony, casual vibes among all the guests and the couple themselves and the beautiful styling by Fiestasol, created a laid-back yet elegant event.
I wanted to convey the spirit of fun, show the tears of happiness and many tender moments. I strongly believe in shooting weddings how they feel rather than simply documenting how they look. And I hope you can see that here.
La Bodega is a wonderful place, with many interesting nooks and crannies and incredible views. But do check the road leading to this wedding venue twice. Or maybe three times. First question Tara, the wedding day coordinator, asked me when I arrived (still super early!) was: did you get lost? – Yes – As far as I did the first time?
See, you just follow a beautiful, winding road and all of a sudden you realize you can see the place but cannot reach it, as it’s right above you. However, a lovely lady passing by on her horse (because it’s Ronda) gave me some directions.
